Variable Structure Control Systems: A Survey
Author(s)Ayman A. Aly

The theory of variable structure systems (VSS) with sliding modes is currently one of the most significant research topics within the control engineering domain. Variable structure systems consist of a set of continuous subsystems together with suitable switching logic. Moreover, recently a number of important applications of the theory in the field of power electronics, motion control, robotics, bioprocess etc. have also been reported. Design and analysis for this class of systems are surveyed in this paper. A brief introduction to the theory of sliding mode control, then enumerates the most important novel trends in fundamental research in this field and finally gives some examples of successful engineering applications.

Rescue Robotics: A Review
Author(s)Muhammad M. Al-Zahrani and Ayman A. Aly

Technology has become the solution to many long-standing problems, and while current technologies may be effective, it is far from fully addressing the hug, complex, difficult and challenging tasks associated with disaster missions and risky intervention. So robotics researchers have a dream which is building autonomous robots that assist humans in critical circumstances. Rescue Robots have been designed for the purpose of rescuing people .This paper offers the definitive guide to the theory and practice of disaster robotics. It can serve as an introduction for researchers and technologists.
