Dr. Yan received a BS in Biochemistry from Peking University in Beijing, China, a master degree in Biophysics and Biochemistry from the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences that is also in Beijing, China, and a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California at Berkeley. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Southern Methodist University and then worked at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas as a faculty member. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, UNT System College of Pharmacy, University of North Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Yan is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine, and mitochondria Society. He has served on editorial boards and as an ad hoc reviewer for many journals. He has been a study section member reviewing grants for American Heart Association. His laboratory investigates the roles of mitochondrial protein oxidation and posttranslational modifications in aging and age-associated diseases with focus on the beneficial roles of protein oxidation and modifications in aging-related chronic diseases.
